| The Montour Trail > News and History > January/February, 2002 > Pittsburgh Connect is Our New Website Host
Pittsburgh Connect is Our New Website Hostby Jerry Agin The Montour Trail website first went online in 1996. We made use of the facilities of Three Rivers Free-Net (TRFN), a project of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. TRFN was encouraging non-profit organizations to create websites. They provided advice, encouragement, and hosting services at no cost to the participating organizations. Over the years the website has grown. The content has expanded to include on-line maps, excerpts from the Montour Trail-Letter, links to newspaper articles, and information on the Burgh's Pizza and Wing 10K and the IKEA-Montour Trail Half Marathon. In November of 1999, we acquired our own domain name, so that we could now use "montourtrail.org" both as our website URL and as our email address. In the summer of 2001, the TRFN made some changes to their network that meant that if we wanted to continue using our domain name for both email and the web, we would need to find another web hosting service provider. Pittsburgh Connect immediately came to our rescue. They offered sponsorship in the form of free web site hosting, in exchange for a banner ad at the bottom of our web page. Pittsburgh Connect is a local computer services company that offers residential and business internet connections, web site hosting, and consulting and design services, all at competitive prices. For more information, click on the banner ad at the bottom of any page on the Montour Trail website, http://www.montourtrail.org/. Jeff Tapolci, Vice President of Operations, says, "Pittsburgh Connect is proud to be the host of the Montour Trail Website. The employees of Pittsburgh Connect understand the benefit of outdoor recreation and are happy to provide free website hosting for Montour Trail." So as we we gratefully acknowledge the early support and encouragement of the Three Rivers Free-Net, we reluctantly say good bye to them. We welcome and thank our new sponsors, Pittsburgh Connect.
