Panhandle Trail Association formsby Ned Williams When it?s finished the Panhandle Trail will stretch for twenty-nine miles, traversing three counties along the way from Walkers Mill in Allegheny County PA to Colliers, WV. It was clear that a single organization was needed to support both the initial and long-term development of the trail corridor. On March 15, 2001, the Panhandle Trail Association was formed, a board of directors elected, and the beginnings of a strategic plan started. It is an all-volunteer organization of people who live in the communities along the Panhandle corridor, and others who have an interest in the success of the trail. The area around McDonald, the interchange with the Montour Trail, should become a hotbed of trail activity over the next couple of years.
