| The Montour Trail > News and History > March/April, 2001 > IKEA Tree Sale
IKEA Tree Saleby Judy Thompson, tree sale coordinator For four years now a crew of hardy volunteers have sold, wrapped and loaded Christmas trees in the IKEA parking lot for four days in early December to earn valuable funds for the Trail. This past December, 68 men, women and children worked in various weather conditions rain, sleet, snow, and, always wind, to help the Trail. They staffed the annual sale held by IKEA who promises customers a $20 gift certificate when they return the $20 tree in January. Loyal customers return year after year, and loyal volunteers have helped the Trail year after year. This year the effort netted $2788, about $50 more than last year. Not counting extra tips and donations, that is about 900 trees wrapped at $3 each. Some of the trees this year were very bushy which meant extra effort to get them through the wrapping machine. Thank you to all the volunteers Trail Board members, families, friends of the Trail, and Montour High students. This year provided a most enthusiastic group, and we thank all of you.
